Rohit Sharma should play the opening Test match against Australia in Perth, according to Sourav Ganguly.
Given how much the team needs his leadership, former India captain Sourav Ganguly believes Rohit Sharma should go to Australia for the first Test match in Perth.
Given that he and his wife Ritika Sajdeh recently had their second child, a newborn boy, the current Indian skipper is very certain to skip the first Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy in order to spend more time with his family.
We have announced that Rohit Sharma has decided not to travel to Australia for the first Test in order to spend more time with his family and the newborn, who was delivered on Friday to Rohit and Ritika Sajdeh.
Ganguly claims that he would have traveled to Australia for the Perth Test if he had been Rohit. Additionally, he believes that the forthcoming series will mark the 37-year-old’s final Australian tour.
“The squad needs leadership, therefore I hope Rohit Sharma leaves soon. I’m confident he can depart since I think his wife gave birth to a boy last night. Ganguly told RevSportz, “He may depart as soon as possible, and if I were in his shoes, he ought to be participating in the Perth Test.
“The game is in a week. He is an excellent captain, but he won’t travel to Australia following this since it’s a major series. First and foremost, India needs his leadership,” the former captain continued.

Rohit wasn’t prepared to lead India in Test matches.
When Virat Kohli chose to relinquish the leadership position following the series against South Africa in January 2022, Ganguly also disclosed that Rohit Sharma was not prepared to take over as Test captain.
The former captain of India stated that he is not shocked by Rohit’s current performance and that he had to persuade him to assume the captaincy in the longest format.
Since he was captaining the other forms, he wasn’t. Thus, the burden was heavy. Workload is not something I believe in. India’s test captain will serve as the test captain. “Don’t end your career without being Test captain,” Ganguly remarked, adding that he wasn’t shocked by his accomplishments.
Both head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit will be put to the ultimate test in the next Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India must defeat New Zealand 4-0 in Australia to advance to the World Test Championship (WTC) final, independent of other outcomes, after losing the home series.
On November 22, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will get underway in Perth. Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth will host the last four games.
Under the lights, a pink ball will be used for the second Test match in Adelaide. It is anticipated that Rohit Sharma would be available for this Test match.
