From Champions Trophy to IPL: India-Pakistan Rivalry Heats Up Again

Since Pakistan is hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy in February and March, the PSL’s regular February–March season has been moved to the April–May window for the following year.

The franchise owners of the Pakistan Super League have requested clarification from the nation’s cricket authority over the availability of foreign players for the tournament, as the dates of the league are anticipated to conflict with the Indian Premier League 2025.

According to a knowledgeable source close to the PSL franchise owners, they have written to Salman Naseer, the new PSL director, requesting that he call a meeting as soon as possible to discuss their concerns.

According to the person who spoke to PTI, “the owners want the PCB to give them clarity about broadcasting schedules and which players would be available for the PSL if the IPL is also being held at the same time.”

Since Pakistan is hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy in February and March, the PSL’s regular February–March date has been moved to the April–May window for the following year. However, the IPL is anticipated to take place from March to May of the following year.

According to the source, there is concern that many of the best foreign players would not be available following this weekend’s IPL super auction in Saudi Arabia.

He said that the franchise owners believed the PCB might put the problems with the upcoming PSL season on hold because of other urgent considerations, such as staging the Champions Trophy early the following year.

Salman Naseer has been requested by several franchise owners to fulfill his pledge to establish an independent PSL secretariat, which hasn’t happened in ten years.

All of the franchises and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) must review their contracts and financial ties following the 10th PSL season next year. The current six-team PSL can have more clubs added by the PCB.
