Tata Motors is gearing up to redefine its legacy with the return of the iconic Sierra, combining cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) technology and powerful internal combustion engine (ICE) options. First teased at the 2020 Auto Expo, the reincarnated Sierra promises to be a modern blend of nostalgia and innovation.
The launch roadmap sees Tata Motors starting 2025 with the debut of the Harrier EV, followed by the much-anticipated Sierra EV in mid-2025, ahead of its ICE counterpart. This strategy mirrors Tata’s earlier approach with the Curvv, where the EV version preceded the ICE model.
Tata Sierra EV
Built on Tata Motors’ born-electric Acti.EV platform, the Sierra EV shares its underpinnings with models like the Punch EV and the Harrier EV. While detailed technical specifications are yet to be disclosed, the Sierra EV is expected to offer:
- Powertrain Options: Single-motor front-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations.
- Range: Approximately 500 km on a single charge.
Design-wise, the Sierra EV is set to retain the squarish, robust silhouette that defined the original Sierra, staying true to the concept showcased earlier. The design aims to exude a wide-road presence while integrating contemporary styling elements.
Tata Sierra ICE
For those seeking traditional powertrains, Tata will offer the Sierra with both petrol and diesel engine options:
- Petrol Option: Tata’s new 1.5-liter T-GDI turbo petrol engine, first introduced with the Curvv earlier this year, is expected to feature in the Sierra lineup.
- Diesel Option: The proven 2.0-liter diesel engine delivering 168 bhp and 350 Nm of torque.
Both engine options will be paired with a choice of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic torque converter transmission, ensuring versatility for varied driving preferences.
A Bold Step into the Future
The Sierra’s reimagining represents Tata Motors’ commitment to innovation while honoring its heritage. With the Harrier EV leading the charge and the Sierra EV and ICE versions following closely, Tata is poised to make a significant impact on both the EV and conventional SUV markets in 2025. Fans of the original Sierra can look forward to a nostalgic yet thoroughly modern driving experience.
