Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra has spoken out about the widespread praise his movie 12th Fail has gotten. Last year, the inspiring drama starring Vikrant Massey was an unexpected smash, earning far more than its budget and beyond trade forecasts. Now, Chora claims that Hollywood insiders informed him it was good enough to be considered for an Oscar.

Regarding 12th Fail’s Oscar hype, Vidhu Vinod Chopra

Chopra discussed the tendency of thrillers and other films not winning National Film Awards during his remarks at the current International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on Friday. We place too much value on prizes, he claimed, adding, “Can I tell you one thing in return?

A lot of people, including those in Hollywood, have told me that 12th Fail should have represented India at the Oscars, regardless of what happened.”

The Malayalam survival drama 2018 was India’s official Academy Awards submission last year, however it received no nominations. The Film Federation of India, which is responsible for choosing India’s submission for the Oscars, did not choose 12th Fail.

Chopra, however, restated his argument on the excessive importance of prizes, stating, “Say yes or no, do I care? What matters to me is whether or not I made a decent movie.

Therefore, please don’t place too much value on accolades. Awards are given to those outside of the industry who recognize you for any reason. Therefore, please don’t bother.

About the 12th Fail

Anurag Pathak’s nonfiction book of the same name, which chronicled the ascent of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma, served as the inspiration for 12th Fail.

Audiences praised the picture, which starred Vikrant with Medha Shankr, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Priyanshu Chatterjee. On a ₹20-crore budget, it also earned about ₹70 crore at the box office.
