Urvil Patel has experienced setbacks in the Indian Premier League (IPL) before. The Gujarat wicketkeeper-batter, however, is quick to turn these setbacks into victory on the field. On Wednesday, he broke the record established by another wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant, by smashing the fastest-ever T20 hundred by an Indian batter.
Urvil crushed 100 off just 28 balls in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 encounter against Tripura at the Emerald Heights International School Ground in Indore a few days after not being selected by any team at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Only Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, who got a century off just 27 balls against Cyprus, is faster than Urvil’s century in men’s T20 cricket. The 26-year-old stumper reached his first T20 century by smashing seven fours and twelve sixes as Gujarat chased a 156-run total. Gujarat reached the goal in just 10.2 overs because to his incredible 113 off 35 balls.
Urvil had failed to sell in the IPL 2025 big auction earlier in the week. His base price was Rs 30 lakh, and he was listed as player number 212.
