India won by 295 runs, led by Jaiswal’s 161 and Bumrah’s 8/72, giving them a commanding 1-0 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Jaiswal has promise, according to Maxwell.
At Optus Stadium, India defeated Australia by 295 runs to take a dominating 1-0 lead in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. Virat Kohli’s undefeated 100 and Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s outstanding 161 enabled India recover from a low score of 150 to declare their second innings at 487/6. With Jasprit Bumrah taking three wickets for forty-two runs and winning Player of the Match, Australia’s response was poor as they were bowled out for 238. India won by the biggest margin of victory in Australia’s history.
Glenn Maxwell, an all-rounder for Australia, thinks that Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ability to adjust to various situations and his limited shortcomings will allow the Indian opener to smash many records and achieve more than 40 Test hundreds.
The 22-year-old, who is regarded as one of the most promising young players in Indian cricket, made an outstanding Test debut and cemented his position with an outstanding effort against England earlier this year.
Jaiswal is a player who is poised to break many records and hit more than 40 Test hundreds. On “The Grade Cricketer” podcast, Maxwell stated, “He has a great ability to adapt to various conditions.”
With an incredible 161 in the second innings of his first Test match in Australia, Jaiswal left a lasting impression and gave India a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

With each century exceeding 150 runs, Jaiswal’s century in Perth was his fourth in just 15 Test matches. He has amassed 1,568 runs at a remarkable 58.07 average. In Perth, he demonstrated his tenacity by recovering from a duck in the first innings to deliver the game-winning hit.
“He made several shots that will be seen on highlight reels, but what really sticks out are the in-between shots, like leaving balls or playing behind them. He doesn’t have many faults and has excellent footwork. He can withstand pressure for extended periods of time, drives well, manages spin brilliantly, and plays the short ball efficiently.”
“With an outstanding match aggregate of 8/72 in the Perth Test, the stand-in skipper set an example, and Maxwell thinks Bumrah may go down as “possibly the best fast bowler of all time.
“Bumrah and Jaiswal are two true generational talents in India who are at the top of their game,” Maxwell stated.
“Bumrah will go down as maybe the greatest fast bowler of all time, as I have stated previously. Perhaps not, considering how many wickets he takes in every format, but it is really tough for the players who have faced him.”
“He seems like a whole package,” Maxwell said. “He just has such unique action, unique ability with the ball to get it to move and rush you, he can beat you on the outside edge, inside edge, and he has a quick sniff good slower ball.”
