A TikTok user named Jules Lebron @jooliannie shared some makeup tips on her account and said something that has now gone viral on social media. She said, “You saw how I put on makeup for work? Very modest, very careful.”
The video posted by Jools, on Aug. 5, has garnered over 35 million views on TikTok and arguably has everyone saying it.

According to Merriam-Webster, the word demure means modest, reserved, or serious.
“I don’t look like a clown when I go to work. I don’t do too much. I’m very mindful while I’m at work,” Jools says, describing the word demure as the way one should carry themselves to work.
“The way I came to the interview is the way I came to the job,” Jools explains.
What isn’t considered demure?
Many of you gals show up for the interview dressed as Marge Simpson then show up for work dressed like Patty and Selma. Jools refers to the two main antagonists from “The Simpsons” who smoke cigarettes as a means of livelihood. “Not demure,” he remarks.
Jools continues by offering further guidance on appropriate attire and behaviour for the workplace, characterising demureness as the benchmark for behaviour.
Lebron’s films have drawn interest from Google, e.l.f. Cosmetics, United Airlines, and celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Khloe Kardashian since the viral video.
“Be mindful of why they hired you,” Jools went on.
According to TikTok data, a hashtag for the trend #demure has been used about a million times, and interest in the hashtag has increased since August 5.
Demure original video controversy
There is another reason for this trend going viral, and there is a debate over who started the trend.When Selena, @trapselena, said that she made the original video on TikTok in 2021, it sparked a contentious discussion.
This is why almost all videos on demure have the search term “original demure video” displayed on them.
Jools is allegedly copying Selyn’s “demure” fashion, as the former stated, “the whole demure trend is something I made back in 2020-2021.”
Nonetheless, a lot of people have defended Jools, claiming that the method used was the reason the video became viral.
One remark said, “It hits different,” implying that Jools’ video’s viral success was due to its resemblance to the singer.
Some people contend that it’s an English word that ought to be freely used by everybody.
“The term demure is in English.Jools plays with it,” read one remark that received close to 60,000 likes.
Some claim that the name is associated with the underground LGBTQ+ subculture known as “ballroom scene” and ball culture, which have their roots in drag acts.
