Given that the squad was folded for just 36 runs in the second innings in Adelaide on December 19, 2020, it will go down as one of India’s worst days in cricket history.
In a playful jab, Australia’s batsman-wicketkeeper Alex Carey reminded India on Tuesday of the notorious “36 all out” in the pink ball Test in Adelaide during their previous Border-Gavaskar Trophy trip of Australia in the 2020–21 series. He did not, however, rule out Australia starting as the favorites in the second Test.

One of India’s worst days in cricket history will always be December 19, 2020, when Australia triumphed by eight wickets at the Adelaide Oval after the Virat Kohli-led team was dismissed for just 36 runs on the third day of the second innings. India have never scored that little in a Test innings.
World cricket never shied away from the odd reminder of that fateful evening in Adelaide, even if India had their “baptism by fire” moment on the trip when they went on to win the series 2-1 after a historic triumph at the Gabba.
When asked where Australia would have an edge in the match on Tuesday, three days before the pink ball Test in Adelaide, where India will play their first match since that visit, Carey responded with a clever jab.
“Cricket has had its share of incredible moments, but we won’t hope to repeat those moments. We strive to follow through on our goal and procedure no matter what. As the media assembled at the Adelaide Oval erupted in laughter, he remarked, “I missed that, it happened too quickly. I wasn’t here for the Test match.”

“Our performance in the pink ball test gives us a lot of confidence, and we are excited,” he continued.
Adelaide’s favorite is Australia?
The Australians have won 11 of their 12 pink ball Test matches, giving them an incredible record. Before the West Indies broke their run earlier this year at the Gabba, they had won 11 consecutive Test matches. But Australia never lost in Adelaide, where seven of the 12 Test matches were played.
Are Australia the favorites in the second Test based on those numbers? In a fairly balanced response, Carey stated that India would also be the match’s favorites following their thrilling 295-run victory in Perth, even though Australia will take heart from their outstanding record in the Test format.
“I don’t know. Given their victory in Perth, I’m sure India is as confident as we are. “It will be an amazing competition,” he remarked.
Only four pink ball matches have been played by India, and they have won three of them at home.
