For the IPL 2025 auction, Mohammed Shami has set a starting price of Rs 2 crore.
Sanjay Manjrekar’s mockery of Mohammed Shami’s chances of attracting a high premium in the next Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction did not sit well with Shami. After Manjrekar predicted that the pacer’s price will plummet at the IPL auction, Shami, who is still one of the most sought-after pacers in India, snapped at him.
Manjrekar is certain that Shami would be followed in the auction by a number of clubs, but he doesn’t think the bowler will get more than INR 6.25 crore, like he did with the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2022 auction.
“There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami’s injury history — and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover — there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season,” Sanjay Manjrekar told Star Sports.
“A team’s choices are reduced if they make a significant investment and then lose him in the middle of the season. His price tag may decrease as a result of this worry.
“Hooooo, Baba Ki Jay. According to Sanjy G.’s gyan, apne futue ke liye bhi bacha lo kaam. To save a little wisdom for your own future, Kisi ko futue janna ho to sir se mile. Shami made fun of Manjrekar in an Instagram story, writing, “If anyone wants to know their future, do contact ‘baba ji’).”

After a protracted absence due to injuries, Shami just resumed playing competitive cricket. Due to a number of injury concerns, the fast bowler has not played since the 2023 ODI World Cup, when he took the most wickets.
Recently, he played for Bengal in his first Ranji Trophy match. It was claimed that the BCCI selectors were pleased with his improvement in fitness. Shami isn’t being deployed to Australia just yet, though.
For the IPL 2025 auction, Shami has set a base price of Rs 2 crore. In 2022, the Gujarat Titans selected him for Rs 6.25 crore.

According to a previous report in the news agency PTI, Mohammed Shami’s international return might occur during the second part of the series or during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
According to those with knowledge of the situation, the national selectors and the BCCI medical staff want Shami to participate in a few more tough matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to see how his body is holding up after several games, even if it’s a white ball competition.

“Tomorrow, the Bengal team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be chosen. “I think Shami will be available for Bengal if he isn’t going for the Border Gavaskar Trophy,” head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla told PTI.
It is known that the selection committee is hesitant to take a danger by rushing Shami after he has finished a rigorous recovery program and just played in one Ranji Trophy match.
Nonetheless, Shami, who made his competitive debut a year later, was outstanding in Bengal’s encounter against Madhya Pradesh in Indore, returning with a seven-wicket haul to help his team win their first game of the year.
