Virat Kohli as RCB Captain?’ AB de Villiers Fuels IPL 2025 Leadership Buzz

According to former RCB player AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli may rejoin Royal Challengers Bengaluru as captain when the team starts their IPL 2025 campaign.

During the two-day auction earlier this week, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru finalized a 22-man squad for the 2025 Indian Premier League, although there is still uncertainty over their leadership. Virat Kohli, who captained the RCB for a long time until resigning after the 2021 season, is projected to be reappointed as captain as there isn’t a clear favorite.

One of the game’s greats and a former RCB hitter, AB de Villiers, seems to imply that Kohli “will lead” the team in 2025. RCB made it to the 2016 IPL final under Kohli, which was also the team’s final appearance in the championship match.

On his own YouTube channel, de Villiers stated, “I don’t think it has been confirmed yet, but looking at the squad, I think he will be the captain.”

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, another veteran India player who has led in the IPL, is one of the auction choices; however, the bowler has just taken on temporary responsibilities at Sunrisers Hyderabad. Another one of RCB’s auction purchases, Krunal Pandya, is the captain of the Baroda squad in domestic cricket but lacks IPL leadership experience.

De Villiers is pleased with the RCB team.

However, AB de Villiers was pleased with RCB’s team, especially the speed assault the team developed throughout the auction.

“We are pleased with Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. We did occasionally miss out on a couple. At least we had Lungi Ngidi, even though Rabada was near. The former Proteas captain claimed, “He has a fantastic slower ball and is a force to be reckoned with if he is in form and fit.”

“We were unable to acquire Ravichandran Ashwin. I’m glad to see him wearing the yellow jersey once more, but CSK got him. Overall, though, I’m rather content. Although we need a game-winning spinner, the team is well-balanced, and maybe we can make Chinnaswamy a force to be reckoned with. This team ought to be employed in Chinnaswamy.

A weakness in the RCB team

De Villiers, however, insisted that RCB could be lacking a spinner, especially during the home games, and pointed out that the team is without a player who could turn the ball both ways. He proposed that the team may sign a spinner from the list of unsold players. De Villiers recommended that BCCI hold a mid-season transfer window if that doesn’t occur.

“I think we could lose out on someone who goes both ways when we’re on the road. We require it, and I believe we are rather deficient in it. It makes me think a little bit about the transfer window in the future. I hope the BCCI and the IPL would open a transfer window so we can make moves halfway through the competition. A wrist spinner, for example, might be added to the team, or you may go back to the unsold list. “It’s something to consider,” the legendary South African stated.
