Who is Kiran Kumar Grandhi? Fans Dub Him the ‘Bigger Mastermind’

Everyone was amazed by Delhi Capitals co-owner and chairman Kiran Kumar Grandhi’s clever strategies to raise the prices of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

The Delhi Capitals left the two-day IPL 2025 Mega Auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday with a smile. DC co-owner and chairman Kiran Kumar Grandhi, who was referred to as a “mastermind bigger than even Chanakya” for his intense struggle against Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer to drive their prices up to record levels on the first day of the IPL auction, was one individual who did no harm to his image.

For the two Indian cricket players, Pant and Iyer, Grandhi was fighting a fierce struggle. After Iyer guided the team to the IPL 2020 final, DC made a valiant effort to get him back to the squad. However, he later went on to the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he helped Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s team win the IPL 2024 championship.

Despite fierce competition from Grandhi and Preity Zinta’s Punjab Kings team for Iyer, PBKS’ enormous budget ultimately prevailed, as Iyer’s basic price of Rs 2 crore rose to Rs 26.75 crore, making him the second-most expensive player in IPL history.

DC chose to use the “Right to Match” option even though Grandhi was unable to agree to keep Pant before to the IPL auction. Grandhi’s brilliant use of the RTM card would have allowed the Lucknow Super Giants to get Pant for about Rs 22 crore.

In order to secure Pant’s transfer to Lucknow, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was then requested for his final bid, which had to be increased to Rs 27 crore. Grandhi brought home former Lucknow and Punjab captain KL Rahul for a mere Rs 14 crore, but PBKS and LSG had to pay enormous sums of money to get Iyer and Pant.

“This individual paid 14 crore for KL Rahul, 27 crore for Rishabh Pant, and 26.65 crore for Shreyas Iyer.” His masterminding is greater than Chanaka’s. One admirer remarked, “KL Rahul at 14 cr is a steal deal.”

It is presently anticipated that the DC team would be led by either KL Rahul or all-rounder Axar Patel during the 2025 Indian Premier League season.
