Despite interest, clubs like CSK, MI, and KKR might not be able to pay Rishabh Pant, who is expected to shatter IPL auction records.
Rishabh Pant is expected to break the elusive 20-crore barrier, making him the most expensive Indian player in IPL auction history. This number has never been exceeded by an Indian player, but Pant is set to do so in the next mega-auction. This comes after the Delhi Capitals decided to let him go on retention day.

Before the IPL 2018 and 2022 mega-auctions, Rishabh Pant was signed by the Delhi Capitals (DC), who he had joined in the IPL 2016 auction. In the next auction, almost every team is anticipated to bid for him because he is one of the league’s most well-known players. Even if they are keen, a few teams could find it difficult to sign him, even if Punjab Kings are said to be the front-runners to do so. A glance at those teams is provided below.
Chennai Super Kings
Since Rishabh Pant could be the ideal long-term alternative for MS Dhoni, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will surely be eager to sign him. The Yellow Army’s available money, however, presents a major challenge. CSK may find it difficult to spend 20–25 crore on a single player given their meager Rs 55 crore fund, which would restrict their capacity to pursue Pant even if they are interested.

Even though CSK is keen to acquire Rishabh Pant, they may not be able to make a successful deal because they still have a number of issues with their team. With just one Right to Match (RTM) card left, CSK has few choices and will need to spend more on other important players in order to bolster their squad for the forthcoming campaign.
Mumbai Indians
During the retention day, the Mumbai Indians (MI) kept their core group of five capped players. MI is unable to make a significant bid for only one player since they only have 45 crore left in their budget after spending 75 crore. Instead of spending a lot of money on a single player like Rishabh Pant, they will probably concentrate on bolstering other parts of the club since they need to have a well-rounded squad.

In the next auction, Ishan Kishan is probably going to be targeted by the Mumbai Indians (MI) once more. In the IPL 2022 mega-auction, MI paid Rs 15.25 crore for the former India U-19 captain, but his price may go down this time. MI may not be able to make a successful bid for Rishabh Pant because of their tight budget and emphasis on meeting other team needs.
Kolkata Knight Riders
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had Rs 51 crore left over after keeping six players on retention day, including two uncapped players. In order to improve their squad makeup and leadership choices for the forthcoming season, one of their top tasks will be to purchase a new captain.
If the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) think Rishabh Pant may be a captain in the future, they will probably try to sign him. They might not actively seek him, though, if they don’t have him in mind for the leadership position. Because they require a good captain, KKR is anticipated to spend a lot of money in the mega-auction to choose their new skipper.
