Weather Worries in Adelaide: Team India Prepares for Pink-Ball Test Under Cloudy Skies

India has come to Adelaide for the pink-ball Test, but their plans may be affected by the city’s inclement conditions.

In preparation for the second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Team India has landed in Adelaide. Given that it will be a day-night pink-ball Test match—something Australia has won every time since it was originally played in Adelaide—it is already a challenging proposition.

Australia has never lost a pink-ball Test match here, but until the West Indies shocked them at the Gabba in January of this year, they had never lost a day-night long-form match at any home ground. Therefore, breaking the records in the second Test is already a challenging assignment for India, and it appears that rain may add even more factors to the mix.

A video of the players traveling from Canberra, the capital of Australia, where they had participated in a warm-up pink-ball match against a Prime Minister’s XI, was shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The players arrive in a somewhat soggy Adelaide at the conclusion of it. Furthermore, Friday, December 6, the match’s planned opening day, may see rain, according to the weather prediction.

India wants to destroy yet another stronghold.

India notably became the first side to defeat Australia in a Test match at the Gabba, capping up their previous visit of the country. They were the first team to defeat Australia in a Test match at the Perth Stadium at the beginning of this tour after being all out for 150 runs in the first innings. They now have to contend with another stronghold when they play Australia in a pink-ball Test match in Adelaide, which they have dominated.

In November 2015, Australia and New Zealand contested the nation’s first pink-ball Test match in Adelaide, which the home team won by three wickets. Since then, Adelaide has served as Australia’s main location for the pink ball test, with events held in Brisbane in December 2016, January 2019, and January this year, and once in Perth in December 2019.

Prior to being shocked by the West Indies in January, Australia had won every game they had played, regardless of the location. In their last visit, India was famously bowled out for 36 runs and lost by eight wickets. This was the only pink-ball Test match they had played in Australia. But India overcame the setback to win the series 2-1.
